Okay – it’s time to tell us about that hunky hero in your book.

What's his name?

Lon Bartlett

Why did you pick that name?

I always look up names (usually under baby names) for their meanings. In this case “Lon” means “ready to do battle”; the name Lon also reminds me of a Lion (without the “I” of course!). The Bartlett surname appears many times throughout history (politicians, publishers, racecar drivers, sports figures, philosophers and writers) and is also used for a collection of quotations. Besides, the title Bartlett’s Rule just seems to roll off of the tongue comfortably.

Give us a brief description of how he looks.

I picture Lon as a big (maybe about 6 foot to 6’2”) man and yet graceful. More to do with image and less to do with vanity, I picture him working out and keeping trim and fit. Because of his public image, he probably has his hair professionally styled and his clothing personally tailored. All in all, he is very comfortable “in his own skin”.

Is there anything unusual about his appearance?

He definitely is the type of man who would attract stares from most women.

Who does he love? Why?

His romantic love interest is Paige Andrews. In the beginning he believes his love for Paige stems more from a need to protect her but then he comes to realize that he admires her strength and appreciates how she makes him feel. He also has a very deep and friendly love for his publicist, Shell, who once was a romantic liaison and now is simply his best friend.

Does this person love him?

Yes, Paige loves him even though her love and need for him scares her.

Tell us about his family. Are they important to him?

While his family is only mentioned in the story, it is obvious that his closeness with his parents and the way he was raised is a big reason for the self-confidence he has.

Where is he from?

Lon has settled in the very urban and bustling New York City.

Does his hometown affect his behavior, thoughts and attitude?

Lon is very “metropolitan” and used to the hectic pace. He is also used to fine restaurants, doormen, and public scrutiny.

What does he want out of life?

He wants Paige in his life. Lon also wants something more than the shallow relationships that have helped to promote his image.

What's his biggest secret? (Only share if it isn't a spoiler in the story.)

All I can say is that Lon learns he has no regrets for his actions if it means protecting the ones he loves.

Did you write more than one story about him?

So far Bartlett’s Rule is the only story with Lon Bartlett. Who knows though? That could change.

How would he describe you?

Lon respects me for being a strong-willed woman who is not afraid to voice my opinions.

Lon truly adores women. Of course he enjoys sex but he also is thrilled when he can engage in intelligent conversation with a woman.

What's his name?

His name is Duke Amoro Dragone of Genoa.

Why did you pick that name?

The name Amoro is my own creation. It sounds Italian but has never existed before. Amoro’s surname is Dragone and that is an actual Italian name. I liked the Dragone name because it signifies dragon and I could create a crest of a fire breathing dragon.

Give us a brief description of how he looks.

Amoro is tall, muscular, with vibrant green eyes and black hair with curls. He is very serious and focused.

Is there anything unusual about his appearance?

His eyes are an unusually vibrant color of green.

Who does he love? Why?

At first, Amoro belives he loves Laria Malacresta, but he knows he can never marry her because of her low nobility status. He soon falls in love with Morena, which at first is unrequited.

Does this person love him?

Not at first. She struggles with her feelings for him because of the forceful way with which he gained an audience with her to propose marriage.

Tell us about his family. Are they important to him?

Amoro loves his mother Caterina and his father, Bartolomeo. When his father is murdered, Amoro’s love is so strong that he swears vengeance and will sacrifice his own happiness to honor his father’s dying wish for him to marry Morena.

Where is he from?

Amoro was born and bred in Genoa. From an early age, he has been groomed to become Duke after his father.

Does his hometown affect his behavior, thoughts and attitude?

Amoro understands duty and has the skills and qualities to make a good Duke and leader.

What does he want out of life?

Amoro wants to avenge his father’s death and honor his father’s dying wish and marry Contessa Morena.

What's his biggest secret?

Amoro has kept Laria Malacresta as his mistress for several years. But when he realizes he must marry Morena, he parts ways with Laria to honor his future marriage vows.

Did you write more than one story about him?

No, Amoro will have to live in the hearts and memories of the readers. This is the only story I plan for him. Besides, he is living happily ever after, so there is no need for a sequel.

How would he describe you?

Amoro would describe me as a very dedicated writer with a penchant for the odd and unusual to be included in her stories. He also knows that I my heart is full of passion and my mind is always creating and twisting new stories and plots.

Amoro is a collector of antique gold and gems. For this reason, Morena is suspicious of him. She believes he is after the lost treasure.

It fitted his character exactly – in fact, he refused to be called anything else!

From the book:

His height and breadth of shoulder alone made him intimidating without taking in his dark, dangerously handsome countenance and mocking green eyes. Here was no fop or dandy. His dress, although cut by a master’s hand, was casual with no sign of the fripperies affected by the Macaronis. However, when occasion dictated, he was known to dress to perfection as many would attest. He had an assurance of manner brought about by matter of birth but even at an early age was widely known as a wild youth. He was well respected amongst his contemporaries who hailed him as a top rate fellow but his escapades were eyed askance by the older members of the haut ton who lamented his rakish ways.

Is there anything unusual about his appearance?
Apart from his dangerously handsome appearance, it is the eyes that captivate.

Who does he love? Why?
Although he is extremely reluctant to admit it, he loves Sophie. Her naivety and artless ways captivate him.

Tell us about his family. Are they important to him?
Although he would never confess to it, he adores his mother and has a grudging respect for his father with whom he is frequently at odds.

He is very much a man of his time with all the weaknesses and strengths of the typical Georgian man on the town.

What does he want out of life?
Pleasure.

No, this is his only appearance in a novel.

How would he describe you?
I haven’t a clue – it would depend on how I treated Sophie.

Fraterfamilias by Peter Ferrer (pseudonym of Judith Doloughan and Paula R. Stiles)

Okay -- its time to tell us about that hunky hero in your book.

What's his name?
Paul (Pavya) Farrell and Alan (Ayanke) Kedward

Why did you pick that name?
Pavya and Ayanke are names that are meant to sound ancient. I did some research on ancient Indo-European linguistic theory to get them right. The other names are modern versions that the two brothers adopted. Alan's first and last names are taken from different academics in history and prehistory, as a bit of a joke.

Give us a brief description of how he looks.
They are twins--fraternal not identical. So, there's a strong family resemblance, but if you knew them, you wouldn't mistake them for each other. Both are tall (close to six feet), dark-haired and rangy. Celtic-looking but with something else. Pavya has short, curly hair; Ayanke's is straight. They look to be in their mid to late forties. Ayanke is a little grayer and thinner than Pavya, but also more hyperactive.

Ayanke has a lateral scar under his left eye and wears glasses. Both start off the book clean-shaven, but Pavya later favors a beard. Pavya wears a turtleneck sweater, jeans and a dark-blue coat. Ayanke wears a shabby green Army-Navy jacket that's more than it seems, sweatshirt and jeans.

Is there anything unusual about his appearance?
Not at all. Like Jason Bourne, they are notable only in their ordinariness, and for similar reasons.
Who does he love? Why?
Pavya loves his dead wife Sarah. Ayanke also loves Sarah. As you can see, this is problematical, especially since Ayanke met her first and continues to communicate with her now she's dead. Both loved Sarah's exotic beauty (she was Cameroonian), her artistic talent and her love of life.

Does this person love him?
Yes, she loved them both.

Tell us about his family.
They have each other, of course, and Pavya was married to Sarah. Ayanke also has a grandson and Pavya...well, that would be telling. They also have friends whom they have adopted for family.

Are they important to him?
Absolutely. A central theme of the story is how far each one would go to protect family. It's pretty far.

Where is he from?
That is a bit of a mystery. Ayanke appears to be Russian and Pavya is apparently French. Ayanke has spent a lot of time in St. Petersburg while Pavya has favored Paris.

Does his hometown affect his behavior, thoughts and attitude?
They grew up in the wilderness. They have a lot of trouble adjusting to the fast, loud and overly controlled pace of modern life.

What does he want out of life?
They want to be left in peace. As far as their vocations in life, Pavya is a talented painter and Ayanke is an equally talented shaman.

What's his biggest secret? (Only share if it isn't a spoiler in the story.)
That they are not quite what they seem to be.

Did you write more than one story about him?
Yes, we did. We've written three books so far, and parts of a few others.

How would he describe you?
Judith and I used to joke that if we were in the situation of these two brothers, that she would be Pavya and I would be Ayanke.

They're both very, very dangerous, but they're not evil.

Arline Chase Introduces the Hero From Ghost Dancer

I'm very pleased to introduce you to Arline Chase, author and publisher. She is sharing information with us about the hero from her novel Ghost Dancer.

What's his name?

Rowan Cameron, or in the Blackfoot Nation he is the warrior Walks Alone

Why did you pick that name?
His father was a Scot who was transported after the battle of Culloden. His mother was a blue-eyed Cherokee, who named all her children after trees --Rowan, Larch and Loblolly. She named him, I didn't.Give us a brief description of how he looks.His picture is on the cover. He is young, only 23, but has been a man from the day of his naming ceremony when he was 15.

Is there anything unusual about his appearance?

Six feet, well muscled, long loose black hair, bright blue eyes, excellent teeth. Of course there are scars on his side from his Sun Dance, and the Ghost Dance shirt and the war paint are a bit un-fashionable in the moveable town of End-ofTrack.

Who does he love? Why?

He loves Christina Lawrence, a debutante who left a broken engagement behind her and traveled west for her health. Rowan has no idea why he loves her. She is everything he dislikes in a woman, argumentative, disrespectful of a warrior, a shameless and inventive liar, and--worst of all--skinny. He thinks very little of her people, because it is obvioius they have neglected the woman and they must be very poor hunters to provide her so little food.

Does this person love him?

Christy does love Rowan, but she doesn't WANT to love him. She wants to help him find his way in the white man's world--a world he has all but forgotten -- to help him with the twins and to teach him now to behave in a civilized way, now that she has saved him from the savages.

Tell us about his family. Are they important to him?

Rowan was lost from the wagon train when his parents headed west. His parents settled in Oregon, but died in a smallpox epidemic only the year before, leaving his 12-year-old twin siblings, Larch and Lolly alone. Where is he from? He was born in Virginia, lost from the Wagon Train in the high plains and lives with the Blackfoot people on the reservation.

Does his hometown affect his behavior, thoughts and attitude?

Rowan has almost no memory of anything that happened before the Blackfoot found him.

What does he want out of life?
Christy. To be respected as the shaman and healer that he is. And more than anything to recover one small blue-eyed --well to say more would indeed be a spoiler.

What's his biggest secret? (Only share if it isn't a spoiler in the story.)

The sadness that fills him.

Did you write more than one story about him?

No, but I have another in mind. He and Christy may travel to Paris in 1906. Rasputin was there, then, with the Russian royal family. What do you think? Would the Russian magician Rasputin be a worthy opponent for Rowan?

How would he describe you?

Rowan doesn't know that I exist. He lives his life and cares for his family. I follow him around and write down what he says and does, but he has no idea I am here.
